Spice

Trade that ignited a maritime quest.

The spice trade involved civilizations in Asian, Northeast Africa and Europe and included cinnamon, ginger, pepper nutmeg, cloves, turmeric and others.  The maritime aspect was dominated by the Austronesian peoples with sea routes to Sri Lanka, India and China.

Beckham and Bunton were stardom possessed.

The Spice Girls are a British music group formed in 1994 by Melanie Brown (Scary Spice); Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice); Emma Bunton (Baby Spice); Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice); and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice). They redefined the girl-group concept, led a teen pop resurgence in the ’90s and became pop culture icons.

Is the essence of life.

“Variety is the spice of life.”  This expression originated with William Cowper’s poem, The Task (1785).

What gives a Mexican salsa its zest?

Salsa is a both dance and a dish. As a tomato sauce, salsa gets its zest from spices, such as chili, paprika, cayenne, garlic, coriander, cumin, oregano, or cilantro. As a Latin American dance, it exhibits considerable spice as well. Limriddler tip: If you try to eat salsa while doing the salsa, you’ll probably spill it.
