Mountain to Shrine

September 17, 2021

Answer: Hike

Camino meanders from mountain to shrine.

For those who enjoy a good hike, the Camino (Camino de Santiago) is one of the world’s most famous hiking trails, beginning at the French border in the Pyrenees mountains and traversing 800 kilometres (500 miles) west to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great at the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain.

Lean out to windward, the hull to align.

When sailors hike, they move their body weight as far to windward (upwind) as possible, often hanging far out of the side of the boat. This brings the hull back to level and decreases the extent the boat heels, i.e., leans away from the wind.

Crank up your drawers

Or prices in stores.

Hike up your drawers means to grab your pants near the belt and crank them up to waist level. A price hike occurs whenever prices of goods are raised.

Snap of the pigskin from team’s scrimmage line.

In American (or Canadian) football, a play begins with the hike, or snap of the ball (sometimes called the pigskin, though it’s usually made of cowhide or rubber) from the team’s line of scrimmage.
