Tack
Sew in some stitches you'll later undo.
To tack or baste is to sew temporary stitches that will later be removed. Tacking is used to hold a seam in place until it is sewn properly, or transfer pattern markings onto the garment.
Zig-zaggy path for a sloop to pursue.
To tack is to use a sailing maneuver while heading into the wind. A sailboat (such as a sloop) turns its bow back and forth so that the direction from which the wind blows changes from side to side, propelling the boat forward on a zig-zaggy path.
Gear that enables
Equestrian stables.
Tack is a term equestrian folks use for stable gear and includes articles such as harnesses, saddles and bridles for riding a saddle horse.
Not as secure as a nail or a screw.
A tack is used to hold things on the wall or other surface. It’s good for attaching small items but not as strong as a nail or a screw.
