Chad

Piece that's propelled with a paper punch pressed.

The chad is that piece of paper that gets expelled by the paper punch to make the hole.  Chads aren’t talked about much, but during the ballot recounts of the 2000 US presidential election (Bush-Gore) they became a topic of much debate.  With accusations of fraud and voter suppression, lawsuits ensued that referred to “hanging chads,” “dimpled chads” and “pregnant chads.”

Chad is a landlocked, African country with a population of about 16 million people. In terms of location, Libya is to its north, Nigeria and Niger are to its west, and Sudan is to its east.

First name for short

Or a nickname of sort.

The name Chad can be a first name on its own, but is often short for Chadwick or Chadrick.  It can also be used as a short form for Charles, which is more of a nickname.

Chad is a term – often used pejoratively – for a young, urban, white, confident, upper-class, alpha-type male. Sincere apologies here to anyone named Chad.
